After a heterogeneous season in terms of population densities and Ages ratio, it once again confirms that something is wrong to use the term of my colleague and friend Philippe Vignac.

In recent years the world of hunting, especially the one we want '' hunting of woodcock  '', is a playground that does not respect its own rules and its studies, whatever the conditions of Scolopax Rusticola, from my point of view communication is a way it seems to maintain the population artificially  !

During the three national surveys on woodcock removals carried out since 1983  , we have a significant drop in withdrawals, 44% * in 30 years .

When you have confidence in the studies carried out by the authorities concerned, naturally nobody disputes the establishment of a sampling book including a PMA of 50 birds in Brittany in 1985 .

Secondly, considering that the situation still requires it in view of the pressure exerted, the institutions of the time, it seems responsible, decided to establish the PMA of  30 birds in 2005 in Brittany .

Finally, in March 2011 the estimates are still decreasing, this time, a harmonization of the PMA of 30 birds on the whole of the territory is put in place.

So, as some seem to want, as we say colloquially "  drown the fish  »We have had a decline in the woodcock population over the past 30 years and the institutions have reacted with delay, of course.  ! They took their responsibilities. Why  did they react? Undoubtedly, the confidence brought to their studies was a determining element in taking such measures.

Currently, the situation that we consider us to be in a phase of  evolution concerning our direct debits should materialize  . We understand the hesitant instances to take such action  . But despite their somewhat late actions in the past, we are counting on the good sense of our dear institutions to consider and maintain good management of the woodcock, otherwise the echo of the campanes of our companions in our countryside risks becoming a distant memory.

I heard the optimists explain to us with their magic wand that all is well  and I believe it is healthy to also discuss our  differences including on social networks, if not what interest for the future of the woodcock, I also understood that the single thought would often be the only way to be heard, according to them, these are the only objectives  .

It is certain, it is easier to stay on the rails of the single thought, for fear of waking up our adversaries, who themselves should have a red carpet, if the trend continues to evolve, as it has done for 30 years.  !
